Setback Requirements (minimum)

For Single Family residential areas:

*Cut-Off Corners: Cut-off corners are not to be considered with respect to setback calculations. Property lines are to be theoretically extended to a common point.

Shingles

No permits are required to replace shingles.

Siding

No permits are required to replace siding if no structural work is involved.

Smoking FAQ

Q. Does Camrose have a smoking by-law?

A. No, with the passage of The Tobacco Reduction Amendment Act, 2007 Bill 45 by the Province of Alberta, the City of Camrose by-law was rescinded.

Q. What does this act prohibit?

A. Smoking in all public places and workplaces. Smoking will not be allowed within five meters of a doorway, window or air intake of a public place or workplace.

Q. What is the definition of a public place?

A. A public place is all or any part of a building, structure or other enclosed area to which members of the public have access including common areas of multi-unit residential facilities, group living facilities, outdoor bus and taxi shelters, licenses premises, restaurants, hotels and public vehicles.

Q. What is the definition of a workplace?

A. A workplace is all or any part of a building, structure or enclosed area in which employees perform the duties of their employment and includes reception areas, corridors, lobbies, stairwells, elevators, escalators, eating areas, washrooms, lounges, storage areas, laundry rooms, enclosed parking garages and work vehicles.

Q. What is proposed for future amendments?

A. Ban tobacco displays, promotions and advertising in retail outlets (proposed amendment for July 1, 2008) and removing tobacco sales from pharmacies, health care facilities and post-secondary campuses (proposed amendment for January 1, 2009).

Q. Who do I call to voice concerns regarding violations to the act within Camrose?

A. The City of Camrose Bylaw Enforcement Officer or the Camrose Police Service.

Sun Rooms, building

Permits are required for any sun room, covered deck, solarium etc. Any roofed structure is considered an addition to the residence and must meet the requirements for foundations and structural integrity of the Alberta Building Code as well as the setback requirements of the Land Use Bylaw.
