Building Inspections will be performed on all Permits issued. 48 hours notice is required for all inspections. Homeowner permits may be taken by a homeowner for a single family residence or farmstead which is owned and is the permanent residence of the homeowner. All permits may be obtained at City Hall (780) 672-4428 or online from the Building Inspection Department.

Building permits are required by the Safety Codes Act of the Province of Alberta. This legislation sets the minimum standards for construction and building safety for the province. Also many lending institutions and insurance companies are requesting proof of code compliance prior to issuing a mortgage or insurance for a building or residence.

The Alberta Building Code requires that permits be obtained for the following:

• The construction, addition, alteration, demolition, or reconstruction after fire etc. of any building. Accessory buildings under 10 square meters (100 square feet) in area do not require a building permit but still are required to follow the setback requirements of the Land Use Bylaw.
• Any change in occupancy of a building or space within a building (for example a change from a retail building or space to a food establishment or an office type use).
• The relocation of any building
