LIFESAVING SOCIETY
SWIM FOR LIFE NEXT GENERATION

The Lifesaving Society responded to feedback from Parents and Instructors and has made some exciting new changes to the Swim For Life Program.

  • L'il Tots has become Parent and Tot 1, 2 and 3. Two great levels for infants to 2 year olds and a level three for 2-3 year olds who still want to be in the water with a parent.
  • L'il Swimmers have become Preschool and now there will be 5 levels instead of 4.
  • Swimmer levels will now have 6 levels instead of 5!
  • Stroke work will now focus on 3 key strokes (front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke)

Based on the internationally recognized Swim to Survive standard, the Lifesaving Society's Swim for Life Program focuses on basic survival skills and good swimming skills – fun from day one! Swim for Life starts by developing strong foundational skills and personal self-rescue skills, then continues on by challenging swimmers to develop strong swimming strokes. Success oriented and fun for the entire family, there is something for everyone in the Swim for Life program.

Call the Camrose Aquatic Centre to find out what level to register your child in. See below for upcoming lessons and for a description of the levels.

Recognized as the standard for lifeguards in Canada, NLS training develops a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgment and a mature and responsible attitude toward the role of the lifeguard.

The primary role of the NLS lifeguard is the prevention of emergency situations and the timely and effective resolution of emergencies. The NLS certification prepares lifeguards to fulfill this role as professional facilitators of safe, enjoyable aquatics.

The NLS program develops the basic lifeguarding skills, principles, and decision-making process to help lifeguards evaluate and adapt to different aquatic facilities and emergencies. The NLS program cannot in theory or practice prepare candidates for every situation that might occur. Employers must provide inservice training to familiarize their staff with the unique aspects of their aquatic facility.

The NLS certification reflects the Lifesaving Society's standard, publications, and research into drowning and injury prevention, water rescue, and aquatic safety systems.

The NLS certification is backed by a full range of safety services provided by the Society that support the design and operation of safe aquatic facilities that lifeguards work in.
