Think Before You Cross

If a vehicle is approaching, ask yourself:

  1. Is the driver looking at me?

  2. Is the driver in control?

  3. Has the vehicle stopped?

  4. Keep looking for traffic in all directions. Continue to pay attention to what is going on around you.

  5. Look for a safe gap in traffic before you cross.

A safe gap is:
  • All vehicles are far enough away to allow pedestrians enough time to safely cross the street, or
  • All vehicles have come to a complete stop and you have developed eye contact with the driver(s).
