The workers cannot see behind them. The alarm is a warning that the machine is about to back up. Do not go near these machines.






Why do construction workers wear a safety vest?

The safety vests are very bright and colorful. It helps other construction workers see them. It also makes the workers more visible to traffic in the area.






Why do construction workers wear steel toed boots?

These steel toed boots protect the workers feet from hazards on the work site. The bottoms of the boots are also reinforced to protect workers if they step on nails.






You do not wear any of this safety equipment, so what should you do?

Stay Away. It is not safe to be on a construction site without the proper safety equipment.

How hot is the pavement stuff?

The temperature ranges from 125 to 160 degrees Celsius. It is hot enough to fry an egg on. Stay away. Don't walk on it.






A tack coat is a sticky layer of oil, tar, and gravel that is placed on the road. How do you know if tack coat is on the road?

It will look blacker and wetter than normal pavement. Workers should also have signs on the road saying "Fresh Oil".








What are those pipes, and how come they are put in deep holes (trenches)?








The water pipes bring fresh water into your home to the taps, and the sewer pipes take away anything that does down the sinks and toilets. Storm pipes take the rain water from the streets. The pipes are deep in the ground so the water doesn't freeze in the winter.
