Funding and Fees No tax dollars are used to fund the operation of the Sanitary Landfill. Only people using the landfill (the "true users") pay to continue landfill operations. This means that people who choose to drop off their solid wastes at the landfill will be assessed a "tipping fee" for their waste (based on the weight and type of waste being delivered to the landfill). Camrose Residents, who have their solid wastes picked weekly under a municipal contract, pay for using the landfill as a component of their monthly utility bill. The money collected, either through tipping fees or through a portion of a utility billings, funds the entire day to day operations of the Sanitary Landfill. In addition, this money funds a reserve which will be used to cover any costs that the landfill might encounter upon closure. Once the landfill closes, the entire area will be rehabilitated so that it can be safely used for future city developments (such as future park areas). The expected rehabilitation costs are taken into account when tipping fees and utility bills are calculated. Tipping Fees - Effective January 1, 2008
