Recycling Depot ExpansionThe 2007 Capital Budget included the twinning of the recycling depot, upgrade to equipment and site improvements including paving. The current "Recycle with Centra Cam Recycling Depot" was built in 1996. Since then, demand for the recycling program has grown so much that the current facility must be expanded in order to keep up with the volume of materials being dropped off for recycling. In 2003, Centra Cam Vocational Training Association identified the need for an expanded facility. In response, City Council redirected the once a year "recycling rebate" on utility accounts toward a reserve specifically for the expansion / upgrade of the facility, commencing in 2003 until present. During the 2007 budget process, after a recommendation from Centra Cam for an expanded facility, the City Council approved this expansion, which will also include an upgrade to the existing cardboard baler. In an effort to secure better pricing through donations, quotes, & in-kind contributions from local trades, City Council agreed with Centra Cam's recommendation to allow Centra Cam to manage the building construction component of the project. Second and Third readings of the borrowing bylaw which will help fund this project is expected to take place by mid-May 2007. Once in place, building construction can commence on-site. This work is expected to take several months. Very little interruptions to the operations are expected – watch for updates. This project is estimated to cost $520,000. Schedule: Building construction completed by the end of December. Site improvements are scheduled for 2008. Photos:
