Trunk Sewer Main Replacement - South of Camrose Drive

Public Notice

Project Profile:

The Sewer Master Plan study concluded that the trunk sewer along Camrose Creek would need to be upgraded due to age related deterioration and for future line capacity reasons.

Grant funding for this project under the Alberta Municipal Water/Wastewater Partnership is time sensitive and had to be pursued in advance of development south of Camrose Drive.

The Sewer Main Replacement project involves the installation of a 1200mm diameter trunk sewer along the Camrose Creek valley corridor from the Camrose Drive to the sewer lift station at the lagoons and a new grinding/screening chamber just upstream of the Pumping Station.

Because of the sensitivity, the Valley Area, the Leisure Services Department, and the Camrose Ski Club have been asked to participate in the design process. Every reasonable effort will be made to limit damage in the Valley, and to insure that disturbed areas are rehabilitated appropriately.

Engineering:

The design and site supervision of this project will be conducted by the City Engineering Department and Bel-MK Engineering Ltd.

Contractor:

Protech Construction Inc. has been awarded the contract for this project.

Budget and Funding:

The total project budget is $2,100,000 with funding from City reserves and debenture borrowing, the project is eligible for $620,000 in grant funding.

Schedule:

The project to install upgrade the Camrose Sewer Trunk is proceeding along well. The contractor has placed over two-thirds of the pipe in the ground. The heavy rains on the Canada Day long week end did not hamper the operations in the first week of July. As the end of the pipe installation is now in sight, attention is beginning to shift to the re-grading and re-vegetation of the sewage pipe right of way and trail system.

The contractor would like to thank the trail system users for respecting the closed off areas, and staying clear of the construction operations.

Note silt retention fence on left to keep clay from job site from washing into creek. Pipe and gravel are stored just ahead of work site for easy access. Ski/walking trails are closed because of the virtual drop on the right.
