2001 Watermain and Services Replacement Program Partially Funded by: Project ProfileCity Public Works undertook an inspection of the sewer services along the 54th Street project as we expected that there would be a few services to be replaced. They advised that all of the services showed signs of problems, suggesting they all be replaced. This type of "spot" excavations inherently create small settlement problems regardless of our compactive efforts during construction. To combat this subsidence, the City normally delays road & curb construction to allow at least one freeze / thaw cycle to assist in the settlement. The City Engineering Department recommended that roadway construction be scheduled in 2002. The water and sewer services to each lot will be replaced in the summer of 2001 as part of the 2001 Watermain and Services Replacement Program. 54th Street will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic for the majority of the service replacement project. Fortunately lanes provide an alternative access in these areas. 53rd Avenue will remain open to traffic throughout the construction.
Budget and FundingThe project is estimated at $186,000 with funding from City Water Fund and Infrastructure Grants.
ScheduleThe project was originally scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2001. Unfortunately the contractor was late arriving on site because of commitments on the new Superstore site, and then on the 47ave watermain replacement project, and was therefore able to complete only the portion between 52 Avenue and 53 Avenue. The north block, between 53 Avenue and 54 Avenue will be completed in the spring of 2002. For More Information Contact the Engineering Department at 672-4428. |
