Home Support Service


The Home Support Service serves the:

  • Socially isolated with insufficient support systems such as family, friends or other agencies actively involved with the client. Family maybe unable or unwilling to be involved.
  • Individuals who are frail and, or confused leading to an inability to manage their own affairs, particularly in terms of hiring, paying for, managing and supervising private help.
  • Families with children, under stresses such as illness (physical or mental), marital or parenting difficulties.

Home support workers are friendly, mature, specifically trained people. They are skilled in home and personal care. They are understanding and sympathetic and they respect the confidence of everyone they work with.

What follows are some guidelines, the aim of our program is to keep clients as independent as possible and we encourage the clients to do as much for themselves as they are able.

Frequency and length of visits will be determined in consultation by the Director.


Homemaking


Services will depend on what needs to be done and what the clients can do for themselves.

  • Kitchen
    • Dirty dishes, if any.
    • Clean sink and wipe counter tops.
    • Wipe top and front of fridge and stove.
    • Shine chrome appliances.
    • Wipe finger marks around doors, light switches, etc.
    • Wash or vacuum floor.
    • Empty garbage.
  • Bathroom
    • Clean mirrors, sink and wipe off vanity.
    • Clean tub, tiles, toilet, and toilet bowl.
    • Wipe bath tub seats and grab bars.
    • Empty garbage.
  • Living Room/Dining Room
    • Tidy up (papers, magazines, etc.).
    • Dust pictures, etc. on walls.
    • Vacuum Rug.
  • Bedrooms
    • Dust/polish furniture.
    • Wipe mirrors.
    • Wipe finger marks on walls.
    • Make bed and change linen as needed.
    • Vacuum Rug.
  • Laundry
    • Sort, wash, dry, fold and put away.
  • Errands
    • Homemakers may take clients to appointments, or assist clients with shopping or banking, etc. within Camrose. Mileage will be charged to the clients for errands.
  • Preparing Meals
    • As needed for each client. Homemakers usually prepare dishes which can be frozen and easily reheated.
  • Child Care
    • Homemakers may provide assistance and support for the parent/caregiver to help them to care for children in the home.
  • Respite Care
    • Staying with elderly persons for short periods while the caregiver is absent. (depending on the availability of staff).

Please Note - We do Not:

  • Shampoo Carpets.
  • Move heavy appliances, such as fridges/stoves.
  • Wash heavy drapes or do heavy laundry by hand.
  • Outside windows, or windows that need to be lifted in and out unless the homemaker has help.
  • Yard work of any kind, ie., snow shoveling, grass cutting.
  • Clean recreational vehicles.
  • Clean up after pets

Equipment

We do not supply any equipment. Equipment such as vacuum cleaners, mops, pails, cloths, cleaning supplies, and any other equipment necessary to do the job must be supplied by the client.


Cost

The cost is based on an income assessment. Final rate payable by the client will be determined by the Director according to net household income from line 236 on your most recent income tax return, service requirements, and other support systems in place. Allowances will be made for dependant children. There is a one hour minimum charge. If your financial circumstances change after your rate has been set, please let us know.

Payment
  1. Do not pay the Home Supprt Aide directly. You will be asked to sign a time sheet indicating how long the Home Support Aide has worked for you.
  2. We will send a bill by mail once per month, indicating the number of visits you have had and the amount owing.
  3. Services may also be billed to someone other than the client.
  4. If paying by cheque, make it payable to CDSS.
  5. You may pay your invoice by mail or in person at:

Camrose Meals on Wheels


Meals are available 7 days/week. You will receive soup or salad, main course, and desert. The meals are prepared at Rosehaven Care Centre, and arrive approxmately between 11:30 a.m. - 12 noon and 12:30 p.m.

You may order a second meal which will be delivered with your noon meal. This meal will also consist of soup or salad, main course and dessert. You must reheat this meal yourself.

Food Safety Alert

Participants in the Meals on Wheels program are reminded that any food not eaten immediately upon the meals arrival, must be placed in the fridge immediately after it is received.

If you are saving a part of your meal or are receiving a 2nd meal to eat later, it must be refrigerated immediately. By delaying refrigeration or neglecting to put the food in a cold environment you are giving bacteria a chance to grow and this results in an increased risk of food poisooning.

Payment

You will be billed once per month. We prefer that you pay by cheque, please make it payable to the CDSS. Please mail your payment or bring it in to:

Meals may also be billed to someone other than the client.

New Clients

If you have not received Meals on Wheels before we will require the following information from you:

  • Name, adress phone number
  • Any special diet you are on
  • Any foods you are allergic to or cannot tolerate
  • Number of days per week you wish to receive meals and which days
  • If you require soup or salad
  • Your birthdate/Doctor and emergency contact name and phone number
Cancellations

Phone 672-0141 by 10:00 am or you will be charged for the meal.


Camrose Meals on Wheels Frozen Food Program


This program offers soups, entrees and desserts for pick up. Meals on Wheels frozen menu provides the flexibility to eat what you want, when you want.

Features

A choice of entrees, diabetic friendly and based on Canada's Food Guide,
A variety of soups (6 oz),
Desserts,
All meals are low fat, low salt, prepared & frozen without additives or preservatives.

Cost

Entrees $5.00 each
Soups $1.50 each
Desserts (squares 4 per tray for $3.50)

Payment

Choose what portions you would like and pay at the CDSS office (Community Centre, 2nd Floor, 4516 54 Street).

You will then receive information on where and when to pick up your meals at Rosehaven where they are prepared.
