A rock opera based on the last week of Jesus’ life.
Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber Lyrics by Tim Rice
What’s the buzz? The first musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice to be produced for the professional stage, Jesus Christ Superstar has wowed audiences for over 40 years. A timeless work, the rock opera is set against the backdrop of an extraordinary and universally-known series of events but seen, unusually, through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. Loosely based on the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, Superstar follows the last week of Jesus Christ’s life. The story, told entirely through song, explores the personal relationships and struggles between Jesus, Judas, Mary Magdalene, his disciples, his followers and the Roman Empire.

North America is home to over 30 Christian “Creation Museums” and creationist science centers, with five in Canada. These range in size from rooms in church basements to multi-million-dollar life size models of Noah’s Ark. Even larger ones are in the fund-raising stages. While Young Earth Creationism’s debate with secular science is well publicized, the museum and creation science phenomenon is about more than simply refuting “Darwinism”. This presentation offers an illustrated, whirlwind tour of some these facilities and argues that behind the unified front against the secular world, the diversity of venues reveal complex symbolic spaces in which personal and cultural identities are articulated.

“Hank Williams Live – 1952” offers folks a chance to imagine how it might have been to listen to Hank sing and tell stories. For two hours we can go back to the Kawliga Café and the Hank that captivated audiences and set the standard for generations of country entertainers to come. This is not a true story, but the stories in it are true. And if it
ain’t exactly factual well, as Hank would say, “What Momma don’t know won’t hurt’er!”
Performed by actor Joe Matheson, dubbed ‘the quintessential voice of Hank Williams,’ who masterfully embodies one of the most important country music artists of all time. A veteran of the stage, having performed in the Canadian premieres of Tommy and Miss Saigon, plus a two-year run of
the hit musical Jersey Boys in Toronto, Matheson promises to give “…a most believable portrayal of the talented and tortured singer” (London Free Press).

Join Art Therapist Nikki Featherstone, in an afternoon of Intention, Healing, and Creation. The Spirit Doll is an ancient tradition in which the makers use the Doll as representation of a healing, a prayer, or a wish they want to manifest in themselves or a loved one (then gifted to that person). Nikki will guide the group in the various ways to construct a Spirit Doll, encouraging each participant to follow the pathway that resonates with them. Each Doll will be unique to the maker, and all will be perfectly wonderful! Participants are encouraged and welcomed to bring personal items they would like to incorporate, such as meaningful fabrics, jewels/charms, and/or photographs to place inside the Doll. All faiths and spiritual traditions are welcome and supported. Absolutely no artistic experience is required. You cannot do this wrong! Please contact the Camrose Arts Society to register.
