The City of Camrose Planning and Development Department initiated the Downtown Pocket Park Project in August of 2015. The project is supported by several statutory and non-statutory documents including the Municipal Development Plan, the Green Space Master Plan, and the Downtown Action Plan.
Negotiations between the City of Camrose and the now defunct Camrose Historic Mainstreet Society led to the eventual purchase of 4952 — 50th Street, with the Historic Society providing the bulk of funding via donation, ($73,500.00) and the City of Camrose providing the difference ($6,500.00).
For the 2016 budget Council approved $22,500.00 for the development of the park, primarily to enable the payment of honorariums for the Design Competition and any other residual costs which may come up through the park planning process.
Major project milestones completed to date: (Phase 1)
It is proposed that the City allocate $50,000 in funding for the development of the pocket park in 2017. To make this project a success, the Planning & Development Department is targeting private donations in the amount of $150, 000.
